About Martin

Martin Petoyan began his career in the financial services industry in 2011 after graduating with a degree in Managerial Economics from the University of California, Davis.

After having exposure to the field early on with notable companies like Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, he decided to establish his career as an agent and financial professional with New York Life in 2012. Martin started working directly with clients, and eventually got his securities licenses to be able to offer his clients a wide spectrum of financial tools and strategies. His passion for finance and dedication to his career allowed him to quickly progress within the company, where he finished #1 in his class in 2014 and 2015 within the Southern California General Office. Since then, he has also qualified for Executive Council four years in a row, an annual New York Life recognition program based on agent production from July 1st-June 30th.

In 2017, Martin made the decision to go into management and become a Partner with New York Life. His main responsibilities included identifying new financial professionals to recruit, training them to build a financial practice, and developing them to become successful agents.

As of January 2020, Martin decided that his personality was much better suited to dealing with clients and therefore decided to give up his management position to go back to working with clients directly. Since then he has been recognized by New York Life for consistent high levels of production by attaining Presidents Council five years in a row. He has also qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table* (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024), an industry wide benchmark that recognizes some of the top agents and advisors in the world. Most recently, he was ranked in the Forbes Top 100 in the state of California of all Top Best-In-State Financial Security Professionals for 2022, 2023, and 2024.**

To further help grow his practice and help his clients, Martin has also joined The Nautilus Group ®. The Nautilus Group is an exclusive resource available to Member Agents working with affluent, high net worth and business owner clients. Nautilus provides a range of consultative services and technical case design to support its Member agents in presenting estate planning, business exit planning, charitable giving, insurance, and retirement planning strategies to their clients.***

Being a Los Angeles native, Martin enjoys being active by playing basketball, participating in spartan races, hiking, meditating, cooking, and reading. He currently plays in three different basketball leagues.

Forbes.com (July, 2024). Neither SHOOK nor Forbes receives any compensation in exchange for placement on its Top Financial Security Professionals (FSP) rankings, which are determined independently (see methodology). FSP refers to professionals who are properly licensed to sell life insurance and annuities. FSPs may also hold other credentials and licenses which would allow them to offer investments and securities products through those licenses. Ranking algorithm is based on qualitative measures learned through telephone, virtual, and in-person interviews to measure best practices, client retention, industry experience, credentials, review of compliance records, and firm nominations; and quantitative criteria, such as assets under management, sales figures, and revenue generated for their firms. Investment performance is not a criterion because client objectives and risk tolerances vary, and these professionals rarely have audited performance reports. Individuals must carefully choose the right FSP for their own situation and perform their own due diligence. SHOOK’s research and rankings provide opinions intended to help individuals choose the right FSP and are not indicative of future performance or representative of any one client’s experience.
